Croatia To Niger And Back

I will feel free to say this is a curious story, well at least for me it was :) My friend was travelling through Africa and I have sent him a few letters to Post Restante addresses during that time. He's never received one sent to Niger - if judging from the stamp/cancellation on the back of the envelope, it travelled for a little less than five months. And then surprise surprise, I got it back after approximately TWO years! (with the donkey stamps, yay ;))

Cuban Lizard

A few days after postcards the Cuban cover arrived, yay :)) I didnt find a great range of stamps but this lizard is good enough for me - a type of Sphaerodactylus (gecko) from the Caribbean. Its from a set of 6 issued in 1994, and oh wouldnt I like to have the whole lizard set! Took a bit longer than two months to arrive.

Belgrade Zoo

This is an FDC that doesn't cover any of the usual topic on Sunday Stamps, so I've decided to slide it in for the anything you wish theme this sunday...I've hurried a bit as I won't be online on sunday.

This set of stamps celebrates 75th anniversary of the Belgrade zoo, which is one of the oldest in Europe. The name of the city means white(beo) city(grad) and the zoo tries to accommodate as many unusual white species as possible. I think idea in itself is marvelous - my concern is that the zoo holds too many species in a small space, now I've also read that its the reason it is not accredited by any international zoo association...I wish something could be done about this, in fact about every crammed zoo there is. Otherwise the joyous moment of seeing such splendid animals can turn into a sad one within seconds...

I am sure there will be many great stamps shown for the open theme day, here!

Animals Cover From Estonia

Endangered Species Stamps

Here another sunday, and the topic of Sunday Stamps very close to my heart :) As I must have mentioned (a million times) before animals are my favourite theme on stamps, and today we post about wild animals. 

I start with a set of stamps entitled endangered species from Nevis, which I have found in a ´surprise philatelic package´ bought in a shop. I havent found much about it online, except that they were issued in 1998 (not printed on them). They show as follows: a young chimpanzee, keel-billed toucan, chaco peccary, spadefoot toad, howler monkey, alaskan brown bear, brown pelican and iguana. Quite an interesting company! The only confusing thing is, only a few of these creatures are truly endangered...
