Yugoslavian Stamps

As the theme for this week's Sunday Stamps #169 is  stamps from Russia or other former communist countries, reaching into my former homeland's stamp collection seemed a logical choice. And to start with, a set that immediately associates with the theme with its burning red stars: issued in 1964 for a communist congress.

Two examples of stamps issued for the children's week (dečja nedelja) each year, would have been apt for last week's theme as well :)

I have acquired some Yugoslavian stamps on my own but I was also lucky to inherit an album with lots of wonderful sets of mostly used stamps - here is a collection of national costumes, they are actually parts of different sets issued over the years. I have singled out a Croatian example for the set issued in 1961, which I believe is showing the national costumes of Jamnica in the capital region. I just love those 'head covers'! (in search of a better word)

Peruvian Cultures

For today's #156 Sunday Stamps theme folk art I am showing a set of two stamps from Peru, issued in 2010, representing ceramics and textile of two (of the many) pre-Columbian cultures Chincha and Chancay (11-14th centuries). The richness of cultures that preceeded the most famous Incas is just staggering...and their art seemingly simple but really very imaginative, which I was only too happy to discover in some of the museums. Folklore Dancers, Papua New Guinea

For me Papua New Guinea is one of the most mysterious and hence attractive countries...These folklore dancers in their flamboyant costumes look impressive don't they! Must be quite an experience to witness it with your own eyes...Issued in 1971, showing Siaa, Urasena and Siassi Tubuan dancers.

Folklore Of Guatemala

Inspired by my postcrossing friend Ana I've decided to participate in this week's edition of Sunday Stamps on Veridian's Postcard Blog  xD The theme is folklore, and I have been looking eagerly through my rather small collection of covers, only to find this great item from Guatemala sent to me by Pat for the NCC RR!

All issued in 2010; the 1st stamp is from a set of 10 showing Textile Art of Guatemala. Other two stamps are from a set of 4 showing typical costumes of Guatemala, a continuation of a set issued in 2007. First is a costume of  San Mateo Ixtatán (West Guatemala, Cuchumatanes mountain range), the second of Tecpán (South-Central Guatemala, on the Inter-American Highway). Gorgeous and unique cancellation! Thanks again Pat :))
